FIVE 4 FRIDAY: CASTLE – HOMAGE TO HITCHCOCK

Today’s Five 4 Friday looks upon those episodes of Castle that accentuate the nuances of the legendary filmmaker Sir Alfred Hitchcock. So, in no particular order, are five episodes that did Hitchcock proud

NUMBER 5

NOTORIOUS – A DEADLY GAME

In this 1946 Film, three people lives become intimately entangled during an espionage operation. In Castle, Roger Faraday, Andrea Fischer and Hans Brauer get in too deep while on a SPYCATION offered by SpyVentures.

NUMBER 4

TO CATCH A THIEF – HOME IS WHERE THE HEART STOPS

The film stars Cary Grant as a retired cat burglar who has to save his reformed reputation by catching an imposter preying on the wealthy tourists of the French Riviera.  The Castle episode features Caine Powell who is recruited by Castle to help crack a case putting to the test Powell’s ability as a jewel thief.

NUMBER 3

SUSPICION – THE WILD ROVER

Ryan must return to an old lover as an undercover law enforcement agent to reinfiltrate the Irish mob, similar to Suspicion, in which Ingrid Bergman’s character goes undercover on behalf of the feds into the arms of an ex-lover who is suspected of being a Nazi collaborator.

NUMBER 2

STRANGERS ON A TRAIN – THE DOUBLE DOWN

The story concerns two strangers who meet on a train, a young tennis player and a charming psychopath. The psychopath suggests that because they each want to “get rid” of someone, they should “exchange” murders, and that way neither will be caught. Here two meet on the water taxi and essentially do the same, exchanging each other’s dirty deed.

NUMBER 1

THE REAR WONDOW – THE LIVES OF OTHERS

Recuperating from a broken leg, adventuresome professional photographer L. B. “Jeff” Jefferies (Stewart) is confined to a wheelchair in his Greenwich Village apartment. His rear window looks out onto a courtyard and several other apartments. During a powerful heat wave, he watches his neighbors, who keep their windows open to stay cool. Sound familiar?

One night during a thunderstorm, Jeff hears a woman scream “Don’t!” and then the sound of breaking glass. Later, he is awakened by thunder and observes Thorwald leaving his apartment. Thorwald makes repeated late-night trips carrying his sample case. The next morning, Jeff notices that Thorwald’s wife is gone, and then sees Thorwald cleaning a large knife and handsaw. Later, Thorwald ties a large trunk with heavy rope and has moving men haul it away. Jeff discusses all this with Lisa and with Stella.

One of my very favorite Castle episodes!
