7. FOR BETTER OR WORSE – SEASON 6
8. CROSSFIRE. – SEASON 8
I am sure there are some who think this should be ranked higher, perhaps even first but, in my opinion there are two others I enjoyed and appreciated more. Make no mistake, this was a GREAT episode and I thoroughly loved it. This had it all, elaborate courtroom break, helicopter escapes, bullets flying, dirty cops, Caskett angst, a shootout, and an assassination attempt. What else would you want?
The Lockwood saga finally came to a head eleven shows after Castle grew a pair of Cojones and beat the crap out of the mercenary. Lockwood, with help of those who hired him, execute an elaborate escape from the courthouse with Beckett on the chase.
Through all the intrigue, it turned out Montgomery was the other dirty cop after Raglan and McAllister. Good piece of detective work by Rick to notice the names being changed on the forms. After this realization, Ryan and Esposito got into it big time. They text Beckett but a bit too late.
Knowing how deep Kate will get into this, Castle gets a surprise visitor.
CASTLE: Can I help you?
JIM: I hope so. I’m Jim Beckett, Kate’s father.
JIM: I feel like I already know you, Rick. I’ve heard a lot of great things about you from Katie.
JIM: This man she’s chasing. How dangerous is he?
CASTLE considers how much he should tell him.
CASTLE: He’s a trained killer.
It’s not what JIM wanted to hear.
JIM: What happens when she finds him? I’ve already lost my wife over this. I’ve already lost – (he stops) No, look. It took me years, but I’ve made my peace with that. But Katie? She won’t listen to me. And she won’t back down. Not unless someone can convince her that her life is worth more than her mother’s death.
JIM: Look, she cares about you, Rick. And unless you’re a lot dumber than you look, I know you care about her. Don’t let her throw her life away.
Interestingly, not long after, Montgomery paraphrased this same sentiment.
So,once again, Castle man’s up, and confronts Beckett in an effort to get her to back down. An epic confrontation ensues, one that feels like a massive breakup even though she is still with Josh.
Time for the final stand, Montgomery steps up to face Lockwood using Beckett as bait. As insurance, Roy engages Castle to come to Beckett’s rescue. Who knew Castle was that strong? What an emotional scene! My heart broke for Kate listening to the shootout and not being able to help, also knowing that she would be committing virtual suicide. GREAT SCENE.
We all know how the show and season ends.
