RANKING CASTLE SEASON FINALE’S – number 6

SEASON FINALE COUNTDOWN

6. HOLLANDER’S WOODS
7. FOR BETTER OR WORSE – SEASON 6
8. CROSSFIRE. – SEASON 8

NUMBER 6 – HOLLANDERS WOODS

To be perfectly honest, in my mind, the next three finale.’s could rank in any order.  At first blush, I chose season seven ended to rank in the sixth slot not because I disliked it at all but that I liked others just a bit more.  Part of me places it here due to its eerily feeling like a series finale.  The writers and show-runners scrambled to give us a plausible plot line yet still provide closure to where Castle and Beckett would eventually wind up (cough cough…spinoff?)

I truly appreciated getting a glimpse of how and why Rick became the great Richard Castle, morphing from obscure Richard Rodgers.  The real fright from all those years ago manifest into the killing of the week.  Of course, as with his show, and really the charm and beauty of the show, has us suspend our disbelief over Rickie meeting up with the masked man who appeared to escape from the Friday the 13th movies.

One story thread I especially enjoyed in season 7 was the character development of Beckett.  They slow built it up to the season wrap by showing she still had ambition and drive to succeed even after the aborted federal run.  We saw her be upset when a classmate got captaincy before her although we didn’t know that was an interest of hers.  The international Asian agent allowed us to see Kate went in both personal and professional success, seriously wanting to try and balance a family with her career.  A very welcome twist was the interest in a possible political career.  Although when considered, it would be a natural progression especially after Kate put her twenty years in the NYPD.

Which lead us to another (although unknowingly final) swings moment.  These scenes never get tiring, they are the glue that keeps Caskett whole.  I also found very interesting and very well done the juxtaposition of Kate’s crossroads of her professional future and Rick being at the pinnacle of his career with his award recognition.
