STK-ATIC SUNDAY: TOP TEN MOVIES
This week I will present Stana’s top ten MOVIE roles. I get the feeling there might be some disagreement on them so let the discussion begin!
FOR LOVERS ONLY
The best part of this movie for me is seeing Stana in the black and white motif. Otherwise, as Natalie Rhodes said (paraphrasing) “It’s like cinematic masterbation” for Mark Polish, and it’s not wrong. If Stana wasn’t lighting up the screen I would have fallen asleep. Mark is just boring. I mean fall asleep during thr movie boring and his brooding manor is cliche’.
This is the first movie where you can see Stana had the chops to become a star. Granted the plot was barely worthy of a direct to DVD release. Stana made lemonade out of those lemons and made it a fun watch.
Once again Stana tackles the Indy scene working for her friend Michael Polish. Big Sur based on Jack Kerouac’s three sojourns to the cabin in Big Sur owned by poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Two best parts of the movie, 1- Stana and 2- The Pacific scenery. Stana injected so lightness and fun into an otherwise depressing movie. Just way too little Stana
This one is a guilty pleasure. I loved her in a comedic role and her and Dan Lauria (The Wonder Year’s) were terrific together. Too bad the rest of the movie sucked considering all the star power.
The initiation of her bad-ass side. Damn she could handle herself and deal out punishment. This movie was better than it had any right to be. The role before becoming Kate Beckett, she showed us that she could be a true action star. She had it all, looks, brains and brawn.
Stana is so much at home as part of an ensemble cast, playing the oldest sister Carolina. I might be predudiced here but Stana outshine her “sisters” with a truly believable performance. The movie itself was a bit better than average. It also has enough of a draw to watch multiple times.
WOULD BE KINGS
An excellent made for TV in Canada, Kate plays a cop with a partner who might not be on the up and up. Watching this after seeing Castle is like watching a prequel. She is pre Beckett even down to the 4 inch heels which she promptly breaks while walking on a sidewalk. This was supposed to develop into a series but alas it did not happen.
THE LIBRARIAN: CURSE OF THE JUDAS CHALICE
Absolutely the best of the campy Librarian trilogy. Stana as a vamp is simply awesome, gorgeous and a good foil for Flynn. She sings too! And who did not shed a tear at the end as she saw the sunrise?
Man I loved this film. Spent my misguided college years here on weekends (one day, it was all I could afford) and saw some wild bands and shenanigans. Saw Genya Raven. Stana truly nailed it playing her. Stana was SO good in this movie. I actually wished Alan Ricknan lived long enough to co star with Stana again. My only negative and it is about almost every Stana movie is that she doesn’t have enough screen time. Ahhh to be 20 again (drinking age was 18).
I truly liked this movie. Stana gets to be the lead and does not disappoint. This genre is well suited for her. Thought the movie and Stana’s acting a bit tentative early on but man once the got going it was almost better than Castle. It had a Indiana Jones vibe to it, falling just short of the classic because of some gaping plot holes, not the acting that Stana took to a new level. There were times it felt as if she was channeling Kate Beckett! In my mind after seeing this movie, Stephen Spielberg could easily resurrect the Indy series and have Stana be the lead. Why not?
Ok let me hear it, agree, disagree, lock me up? Love to hear your thoughts
