THURSDAY TOP TEN: GUEST SCRIBE — CINDY WYLIE
Arye Gross is one of those character actors that many of us are familiar with, but we don’t know his name. As Dr. Sidney Perlmutter, he only appeared in 17 episodes, but we knew if Perlmutter was the acting M.E., there were usually going to be some good digs at Castle, Beckett, or the boys. His favorite foil was Castle, the author he loved to hate. Here are 10 of my favorite moments when Perlmutter loved to hate on either Castle or Beckett.
Top 10 Perlmutter Moments:
#10—The Double Down (2×2). This is the debut episode of Perlmutter, but it gives us an idea of what’s in store for us. When he tells Ryan and Esposito that the body is speaking to him and then refers to one of the officers as ‘Officer Whochamaface,’ we knew we were in for good times.
#9—Scared to Death (5×17). Perlmutter always had names for Castle. In this episode, he refers to him as Defective Castle.
#8—The Fast and The Furriest (5×20). Perlmutter and Castle disagree on the existence of Bigfoot. Also, one of the few times that Castle and Perlmutter agree when Castle and Beckett are first shown the victim.
#7—The Way of the Ninja (6×18). ‘What you don’t know about Post-Mortem analysis could fill a book. In fact, it has. Numerous times.’
#6—Kill the Messenger (2×8) Perlmutter offering to share his lunch with Castle was out of character for him, but still a good scene.
#5—Castle P.I. (7×11). Perlmutter rejoicing over Castle not being at the crime scene. And the scene with Castle at the morgue.
#4—The Final Frontier (5×6). Perlmutter having to admit that Castle is partially right about anything must’ve been painful.
#3—Undead Again (4×22). The scene in the morgue. Or the scene in the parking garage. Both are classic Perlmutter. Plus, you get one of Castle’s more classic lines. ‘Is there a police code for a zombie on the loose?’
#2—Famous Last Words (2×7). We don’t see angry Perlmutter. But we hear him yelling at Beckett over the phone. And Castle’s response of ‘There’s a reason why he only hangs out with dead people’ is great.
#1—And Justice for All (8×13). I know that as a whole, most of us hated Season 8. However, this scene in the morgue with Perlmutter and Beckett is my favorite Perlmutter scene ever. The thought of there being two Perlmutter’s, identical twins at that, make this a scary and a funny scene all at the same time.
