THURSDAY TOP TEN: JANUARY EPISODES

There were 17 episodes of Castle aired in the month on January. Uniquely, none is season 1 or season 8. Since this month is the kickoff to the unofficial second half of a season, some of the best shows are aired then. With that said, here is my take in the best on January!

NOT REALLY CONSIDERED:

CASTLE PI

PRIVATE EYE CARUMBA

UNDER THE INFLUENCE

IN THE RUNNING:

LIMELIGHT

DIAL M FOR MAYOR

DEATH GONE CRAZY

JUST MISSED:

UNDER FIRE

A really good story involving the ‘brotherhood of RYESPO’ fighting for their lives while Jenny goes into labor.

NUMBER 10:

AN EMBARRASSMENT OF BITCHES

A very fun episode where everyone got to contribute. Plus add in Royal? Come on! Great guest star, Hillary Burton doing a mock-up of some reality show stars. And a Scooby Do moment!

NUMBER 9:

TILL DEATH DO US PART

Maybe it is me, but I loved to pickup artists especially the interrogation scenes. Add to that gyrating Jenny and Ryan maturely dealing with it, especially in light of Castle’s nonsense about numbers given his history! So happy Beckett shot him down. The opening teasing of Beckett was fun as was the taunting by Espo toward Ryan. And a really nice happy ending!

NUMBER 8:

A ROSE FOR EVER AFTER

So Castle does real. Does that just make Beckett’s feelings even more jumbled? Alway welcome plot lines that provide back stories, and this one for Rick makes sense, better than hearing about all his hookups. Lanie provided her charm needling a somewhat jealous Beckett. Her catching the bouquet just planted a seed for the future.

NUMBER 7:

DEEP COVER

An encore appearance by Jackson Hunt is enough to put it in the top ten. Nicely developed storyline including some long harboring affection between Jackson and Martha. And who doesn’t love an amusement park, especially if it is Coney Island!

NUMBER 6:

POOF YOU’RE DEAD

You know there is one trick…” and it keeps us coming back for more. Beckett and Magic and Castle make for a fun hour. Best part is the sharp edged verbal swordplay that just catches you off guard and appreciating the show for all it’s good points.

NUMBER 5:

THE THIRD MAN

One word ‘Abraddekker!’ Really fun (except for the murder) episode utilizing a unique setup of a squatter. Best part if giving Beckett equal romantic footing with playboy Rick Castle who just might be getting past conquest mode and into relationship territory.

NUMBER 4:

SIGNIFICANT OTHERS

It is always a treat when two excellent actresses hook up to deliver the goods. Great way to re-introduce Meredith and give some doubt to the runaway romance. Drop in a touch of Lanie and you are prospecting for gold. And it doesn’t hurt that Castle gets the brunt of the tradings!

NUMBER 3:

KNOCKDOWN

Who knew you could get fingerprints from skin? Great intro to Hal Lockwood, a worthy adversary indeed. We now have a face to go with the ghost Beckett has been chasing. Add to that the admission of more than friendship by Castle and a very nice, albeit, diversion kiss! Nicely paced episode that rendered a satisfying (for now) resolution.

NUMBER 2:

NIKKI HEAT

So much to love here, from the faux proposal, to Natalie shadowing (to the extreme) to the freebie five! It was like a precision duel between two great actresses bringing it big time. And just enough Castle to drive it over the edge!

NUMBER 1:

SUCKER PUNCH

Great episode from start to finish. After 22 episodes, we get a hint as to who murdered JoHanna even if it left another (larger) loose end. Beckett displays a huge range of emotions, including being a ‘badass’ (smack) and vulnerable. We also we shown that Castle has a lot to learn , WTF no Chinese?
